Many states restrict access to vehicle records under the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act and related state privacy laws. Before submitting a request, confirm that you have the required identification, authorization, payment, and supporting documentation.

After the request is reviewed and approved, you will receive an email stating the record is available for payment. There is a $10 charge for each record. Government and Law Enforcement agencies are not charged. No fee for records retrieved for court purposes.

Alaska AK
Persons eligible under the Driver Privacy Protection Act and Alaska statutes may obtain an Alaska Motor Vehicle Record. Complete Request for Vehicle Record Form 851, sign and date the form, submit payment and any required documents to the Alaska DMV. $10 fee per record. Government agencies not charged.

Arizona AZ
If you are the owner of record on the Arizona title, you may purchase a Title and Registration Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) online through AZ MVD Now (azmvdnow.gov/home” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer” style=”color:#68a82f;text-decoration:underline;font-weight:600;word-break:break-word;”>https://azmvdnow.gov/home) or by mail using Form 46-4416. If you are a prospective buyer of a vehicle currently titled in Arizona, ask the vehicle owner to provide an Arizona MVR prior to purchase. Vehicles not titled or registered in Arizona during the last 5 years may not be eligible.
Arkansas AR
Under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, Arkansas will not give out information belonging to someone else. If you need information from when you owned the vehicle, send a written request with a copy of your driver's license including: vehicle specifics (VIN, license plate number or name/address), and reason for requesting.
Fees: $1.00 for owner/lien holder information and $1.00 for each copy of documents.

Individuals eligible under §286-172, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and §19-121, Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR), may request a copy of their Motor Vehicle Record via UIPA request process.

An Idaho Motor Vehicle Record is available to individuals and businesses who can provide the VIN and title number and are authorized under the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act and Idaho Code §49-203.
